All of our venues are centrally located Brighton venues, and this year we have six performance spaces available across our five Brighton Fringe venues listed below.

How our venues are set-up

For each of our venues below you can click through to a separate page with all of the specifications for each performance space. Our spaces range in capacity from 50 to 105.

All of the rooms are separate spaces from public areas of venues, and set-up like small Fringe theatre or comedy club type rooms.

All of the rooms are set-up and managed by Laughing Horse, and are supplied as standard with a full PA system, Mics, lighting and stage, audience seating and are ready to go for your show. Many have more facilities such as AV, backstage areas and so on – these details can be found when you click on the link below for each venue.


What shows are suitable for our venues

We have spaces suitable for all Fringe genres and we programme a mixture of genres at each venue to provide a varied programme in each space, an indication of genres we feel are suitable are listed for each venue.

The Caroline of Brunswick only allows entry for customers aged over 18 - all of our other venues allow under 18s into suitable shows or childrens shows before 6pm.

a&o Hostel Bar

Immerse yourself in the lively atmosphere of Brighton! The centrally located a&o Hotel Bar is a modern bar located opposite the Speigeltent on Old Steine, and just around the corner from Brighton Palace Pier. There's food, drink, pool and a spacious and friedly bar attached to a Hostel, and Fringe shows running right the way through the Fringe. The whole bar and Fringe venue is fully disabled accessible on the ground floor, with a disabled toilet.^^^^

The Fringe performance space for Fringe shows is the "Meeting Room" which hosts Fringe shows all day and night at weekends, and in the evenings during the week. There's a flat floor stage, full PA and stage lighting for shows, along with a TV Screen screen.

The venue is fully accessible for disabled audience and performers.

The Caroline of Brunswick

Opposite The Level, The Caroline of Brunswick is Brighton’s most exciting pub - and is the city’s friendliest rock & alternative bar, with a live performance venue upstairs, specialising in comedy and cabaret show through the year and an intimate walled garden and outdoor seating.

The Upper Lounge is the place to see great comedy and cabaret in an intimate environment, while late at weekends the dance floor opens up as our DJs and rock karaoke sessions take over.

For shows there is theatre seating, PA, lighting, mics, stage, green room, 4K projector & screen. The space has an intimate and cosy feel, which is ideal for comedy, theatre or music. The Room seats 80, and can easily be converted to a 55-seater with backstage area.

The Quadrant

Located right in the centre of Brighton next to the Clock Tower, just down the hill from the station, The Quadrant is one of Brighton's oldest watering holes - It's a quirky little independent boozer with a live music, comedy and craft workshops room upstairs and a covered outdoor seating area out the back.

The Fringe performance space for Fringe shows is the upstairs "Folklore Room" which hosts Fringe shows all day and night at weekends, and in the evenings during the week. There's a raised stage, full PA and stage lighting for shows, along with a projector and screen.

The Quadrant is the Laughing Horse's original Brighton venue, and has been both nominated and won the Best venue at the Fringe Award.

The Temple Bar

Located on busy Western Road, on the way towards Hove, the new look Temple Bar houses a young and vibrant crowd who know their drink, love their food and demand good music. There’s a discerning yet warm atmosphere in this contemporary drinking den. There food, drink and plenty of outdoor seating that blends the outdoors with indoors in this stylish venue.

Fringe shows are located here every day during the Fringe in the upstairs room, with an intimate feel featuring rows of seats located between the styled booth seating.

There's a full PA, stage lighting and small backstage area for shows.

The Walrus

In central Brighton, a stone’s throw from the beach and on historic Ship Street in Brighton’s famous Lanes, you’ll find the Walrus with its labyrinth of eclectically-decorated rooms and endless winding passageways. You’ll also discover a wonderful hidden two-story roof garden, restaurant and spacious bar.

There are two performance spaces for Fringe shows. The large "Basement Room" located downstairs, and the more intimate "Raised Room", located to the rear of the ground floor bar - both hosting Fringe shows all day and night at weekends, and in the evenings during the week.

The Basement Room has theatre and booth seating, a large raised stage and full PA system. It's low ceilings make it an atmospheric space to perform comedy and cabaret, and it transforms into a club after shows on Friday and Saturday Night. The Raised room is a more intimate space.
