Generation Why: A hilarious hour about the collective, unprocessed trauma of the millennial generation.

The generation of entitlement, participation trophies and snowflakes. That is how many see us.

The generation of social change, technological revolution and pizza rolls. This is who we are.

Examining our obsession with nostalgia as a reaction to several unprecedented decades of turbulence and uncertainty during our formative years, this project will both celebrate and mourn where we find ourselves. Seemingly stuck between a trauma filled childhood and an adulthood we feel massively unprepared for.

We are Generation Y and all we can ask is why. Why have things been allowed to get this bad? Why is it our job to clean it up? Why didn't Pokemon prepare me for this?

It is a one hour comedy/theatre performance aimed mainly at 25-40 year olds. Dian Cathal, acclaimed comedian and playwright will re-cap the upheaval and accomplishments of the world over the last 25 years, dressed as a series of iconic 90's/2000's characters. While coming mostly from an American point of view, the instability that has plagued our lives has been one of the most significant factors in shaping our psychology as a generation.

Millennials are on track to be the most unhealthy generation since World War II, especially when it comes to mental health.

To put it in perspective, the formative years of millennials have had:

The US and UK in the longest war since WW2

The worst recession since the Great Depression

Nazis are back

Russia is evil again

The Plague AKA Covid-19

This combined with the relentless speed of technology has left us with no time to process and adjust to the all the horrors of the world.

We are tasked with saving the world, just like Saturday morning cart morning cartoons taught us!
