Barbara Fernandez: Singing, Sagging and Shagging

A music-driven, one-woman cabaret show celebrating outrageous, true life stories of a multiple-divorcee/rock-singer-turned-cabaret-comedian who, at age 60, decided to pack her jaw-dropping tales of cult-loving husbands, jailbird exes, shaggable therapists and neurodiverse adventures into an hour show of powerfully funny parodies, with snippets of famous songs recrafted to poke fun at her rocky road to self-discovery.

From sultry pop to classical trills and belting cabaret-style showstoppers, Barbara lustily celebrates female power in the midst of chaos using powerful vocals and, unfortunately for her bank account, bra-busting style.

As one reviewer puts it, “Meet Liza Minelli and Debbie Harry’s love child as she takes to the stage”.

The show enjoyed a highly successful run at Edinburgh Fringe (as Singing, Sagging and Shagging), where it got excellent reviews:

★★★★ “Outrageously funny musical comedy show. What an excellent comedian” – Theatre and Arts Review

★★★★ FringeReview “Highly Recommended Show” 2024: “Soaring vocals, belly laughs, and touching tales…She’s fearless, endearing, and utterly unflinching, a force of nature who leaves us laughing and reflecting”

Nominated for Edinburgh Fringe Disability Champion award (for Neurodiversity) 2024

Audiences describe the show as ‘uplifting musical comedy cabaret,’ with rave reviews:

“Raucous and raving! Barbara is a skilled singer and a force of nature” (Paul W)

“Barbara’s voice is only surpassed by her ability to find the hilarity in her various misadventures. This show is hilarious, the singing is amazing and it is beautifully touching” (Colin)

“A brilliant show, the last and one of the best I saw…She is a talented all-rounder with great stories and clever songs to entertain. Lots of laughter all round” (Catherine)

“Barbara takes us through her colourful life in a series of cheeky, fun songs, and also poignantly highlights the role of mental health. This show will make you laugh, cheer, think, and sing along with her! I can highly recommend” (Amber)

“Super show! Heartfelt, moving, powerful performance with wonderful singing and most importantly funny” (Brandon C)

“She engages the whole crowd in such an inclusive, silly way…Underneath the fun, glitzy delivery is a real heartfelt story about getting to know yourself and accept yourself for who you are. This show is a hidden gem. I’m so glad I discovered it. Highly recommended!” (Torrey S)

“Soaring vocals, belly laughs, and touching tales! An absolute delight” (Mike M)

“What a show! Went with some friends on the 19th and we couldn’t contain our laughter. One of the rare performances where everyone is in stitches and you leave the venue with your cheeks hurting” (Niamh C)
