Sharon Em: I Know a Guy

The show is about what happens when a medical misdiagnosis results in a kidnapping and an Irish family secret is revealed way too late.

Her Mothers mysterious illness meant she was not allowed have any contact with her for 2 years. When she did ‘move in’ (her mothers’ words) it was not the smoothest transitions with the people who initially looked after her not willing to give her back. How else to solve this problem than have her kidnapped! All before the mystery illness was revealed. Spoiler: everyone is fine!

Its a light-hearted, layered and crafted look at a family secret that, when revealed, made Sharon think very differently about her own life and attachment styles and how she dealt with rejection - even by goths! Making her reconsider many of her previous decisions.

The show explores a universal thread that ties us all together; the influence of family and upbringing and the human need for connection and belonging and how they don’t always work harmoniously together.

Its a stand-up show but with a storytelling style, looking at themes of family, how early bonds influence attachments throughout life and relationships.

Drawing from a diverse array of anecdotes, Sharon navigates the intricacies of transforming personal stories into a shared narrative that transcends individual backgrounds and experiences.

'I Know a Guy' was nominated by ISH Awards for Best Debut at Edinburgh Fringe 2024.
